The long-awaited Crystalio II will be our first True 1080p Video Processor when it is launched in December of this year. Utilising the awesome Gennum VXP chipset, the processing power in this beast is absolutely remarkable. Motion Adaptive, per-pixel deinterlacing, with inverse telecine, of all signals up to 1080i is quite a feat in itself. Add multi-directional, edge adaptive processing and Gennums 1024 point scaling technique and you get yourself the most highly detailed, cleanly scaled image seen. SDTV signals are treated to a choice of Faroudja (as with Crystalio I) or Gennum processing, both of which are so good the engineers never could agree which was the better!!
With all this processing power, the Gennum is capable of carrying out the kind of enhancements processors before have been able to, but to a much higher degree of detail. Such as 1080i deinterlacing being carried out on a per-pixel basis rather than analysed as clusters, scaling of pixels involving analysing each of 1,024 pixels surrounding the one pixel being analysed, multiplied by the number of pixels in the image (which could be 1920 x 1080 of them!).
Features to aid installation and calibration include 10-bit gamma adjustment, 3D adaptive comb filtering, y/c calibration to a sub-pixel level, advanced noise reduction and detail enhancement circuitry, UltraAR (aspect ratio management) is improved upon from the previous Crystalio, far more configurable memory management for multiple resolution settings, on a per input basis, audio-delay adjustment is now integrated into the unit. Crystalio II VPS3800 Pro users also gain an internal media player with 200g disc, HD-SDI inputs, a high precision low-jitter timing clock for the ultimate reference image. We hope to be able to offer HD-SDI modifications for Sky's new HD service and future HD DVD formats when the Crystalio II is released. The Crystalio II also boasts the most user-friendly graphical interface we have ever seen on a video processor!!!
