Video Processing
A very technical subject that very few even in the industry know about (let alone understand) is the importance of good video processing. For many it is truly amazing just how broken their image was before they introduced a dedicated video processing unit into their cinema. It's rarely a case that the device is "improving" the signal either, more often than not it is simply processing the image correctly, as it should be, and applying some clever noise reduction and colour management options on the way.
