Closed System
It is not only for convenience reasons that we deliver active subwoofer, front and rear satellite loudspeakers and center loudspeaker in one high performance package. These components are designed to work together optimally, to maintain a coherent sonic signature across all system channels. Our so-called "closed system" approach consists of custom-built drivers that optimize system design and minimize crossover components. By doing so the performance level is ensured as everything matches, rather than insecure.

Colour Coded Loudspeaker Connectors
Harman Kardon Home Cinema systems use the channel colour-coding system established by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) to make setting up your home theater speaker system as easy as possible. Your system includes a set of coloured stickers that may be placed near the speaker terminals of each of the four satellite speakers. It doesn't matter which satellite speaker is used for any of the front or rear positions. The center speaker and powered subwoofer are already color-coded, like all our audio/video components.

Down-Firing Bass Reflex Enclosures
Whatever you enjoy - action blockbusters, period drama, horror flicks or musicals- the movie experience isn't complete without some serious muscle working at the bottom end of the frequency range. In order to deliver unmatched low-frequency impact, Harman Kardon active subwoofers use down-firing bass reflex enclosures. The loudspeaker is installed in the bottom of the subwoofer, just above the floor, allowing to reach a higher acoustical loading. The result is a much higher SPL (Sound Pressure Level), that can be produced even with relatively small subwoofers. In addition, because the subwoofer radiates downwards, the distance to the nearest room boundary (the floor) is fixed. This in turn maintains constant acoustic loading on the subwoofer and allows our designers to optimize the performance in the secure knowledge that important operating conditions are fixed and will not change from one installation to another.

Magnetically Shielded Drivers
Unshielded loudspeaker components influence the magnetic field in the TV, resulting in visible color shifts and possible damage to your TV. In order to be able to place your loudspeakers close to a TV (closer than 60 cm), our loudspeakers and subwoofers all use magnetically shielded loudspeaker components. By doing so, the radiation from the magnets of our loudspeaker components does not interfere with the magnetic field in the tube of the TV. The TV picture will therefore not be disturbed.

Music Sense Switching
The active subwoofers from Harman Kardon are smart. They switch on when they need to, and switch off automatically when you stop listening. We call this Music Sense Switching. When your receiver or amplifier is off, or is not sending program material to the subwoofer, the subwoofer will be in standby mode. When the subwoofer senses an audio signal, it will automatically turn itself on. If the subwoofer does not sense a signal for approximately twenty minutes, it will automatically go into standby mode again. It is recommended that if you will be away from home for an extended period of time, or if the subwoofer will not be used, switch the Master Power switch to the "OFF" position.

Plug and Play
Harman Kardon's Home Cinema Speaker Systems offer ultimate Plug and Play convenience. They include everything you need to make it the heart of your home entertainment system. Along with satellite and center loudspeakers and active subwoofer come loudspeaker and interlink cables, wall brackets and shelf stands, all in one box. Connection and setup are done before you know. Optional stands for both types of satellite loudspeakers are available.

Tandem Center Loudspeakers
Contrary to what most people still think, it is not the main left and right loudspeakers that are most important in a Home Cinema system. 90% of all the dialogue, or spoken word, is being reproduced by the center loudspeaker, and that makes this center loudspeaker extremely important. In order to offer you clear dialogue, Harman Kardon offers tandem center loudspeakers, which feature 2 midrange drivers, whereas competitors' center loudspeakers normally feature only one midrange driver.
